dreaming Serifos

Ecco il primo post in vero stile The Travel Eater! In questi giorni di clima incerto e alle porte dell'inverno, parto dal mio migliore viaggio al mare e lo dividerò in almeno tre parti: prima parlerò in generale (in questo post), poi delle peculiarità!

Spero via piaccia e aspetto commenti su qualunque cosa!

Here is the first post in the true The Travel Eater-style! In these days of uncertain weather and at the gates of winter, I begin from my besttrip at the sea and I'll divide it into at least three parts: first of all I will speak in general (by this post), then there'll be the peculiarities!

I hope you like it and I'm waiting for your comments about anything!

Serifos è un'isola greca, nell'arcipelago delle Cicladi, considerata, secondo la mitologia, l'isola dei giganti e dei ciclopi. Questi avrebbero infatti scoperto il ferro e civilizzato l'isola. Inoltre, per spiegare l'aspetto brullo e roccioso del paesaggio, la leggenda vuole che Perseo, dopo aver ucciso Medusa - il cui sguardo pietrifica chiunque lo incroci in modo diretto - abbia portato a Serifos la sua testa. L'incantesimo, non essendosi esaurito, avrebbe pietrificato il re e la sua isola.

Si tratta di un posto stupendo e il cui stile di vita è irresistibile. Domina la tranquillità, ma non la noia. E' l'ideale non solo per le famiglie, ma anche per i giovani. Non bisogna credere di poter passare, a Serifos, una vacanza come a Ios o a Mikonos (tipologia che - tra l'altro - non mi interessa), ma possiede non pochi luoghi di interesse: ci sono molti pub, che organizzano anche feste ed eventi appositamente per i ragazzi, e una discoteca.

L'atmosfera comunque è rilassata e serena. Io ci sono stata solo una settimana - e non sarei più partita.

L'unica cosa: è un po' scomoda da raggiungere. L'aereo arriva fino ad Atene, dopo di che c'è da prendere la nave per qualche ora (Serifos è comunque tra le più comode, nelle Cicladi). E' da tenere in conto che non si possono sfruttare i giorni di viaggio - ma ne vale decisamente la pena!

Serifos is a greek island in the Cyclades, considered, according to mythology, the island of the giants and the Cyclops. They'd have discovered the iron and civilized the island. In addition, to explain the barren, rocky landscape, legends says that Perseus, after slaying Medusa - whose gaze petrifies anyone who crosses it directly - has took to Serifos his head. The spell, not having exhausted its force, would have petrified the king and his island.

Serifos is a wonderful place, and its lifestyle is irresistible. There, the quiet dominates, but the boredom doesn't. It 'a great place not only for families but for young people too. This is not a place to spend a holiday as you can if you are in Ios or Mykonos islands (that are types of holiday that I do not care), but has many meeting places: there are many pubs, which also organize parties and events for ladies and guys, and there is a disco too.

The atmosphere is still relaxed and serene. I have been there just for a week but I wish I didn't go away anymore.

Just a note: It's a little difficult to reach. The plane goes up in Athens, after it you have to take the ship for few hours (Serifos is still the most comfortable, in the Cyclades). You have to keep in mind that you can not do anything but travel, when you get there and you get back him - but Serifos definitely deserve it !

Mia zia, dopo anni in cui si è lasciata stuzziacare dall'idea, ha comprato casa in questa isola meravigliosa. Io ero stata, con le mie amiche, solo nell'isola di Rodi per le vacanze dopo la maturità, ma non mi ero mai addentrata nelle bellezze della penisola e delle isole. Quindi, quest'anno, io, la mia famiglia e alcuni amici abbiamo deciso di sfruttare la presenza di mia zia per fare una settimana di mare in quel paradiso. Essendo in nove non abbiamo potuto stare tutti nella nuova casa di mia zia (un delizioso cubetto bianco) e abbiamo affittato una casa per la mia famiglia e gli amici (anche loro, una famiglia di quattro persone). Grazie ai contatti di mia zia abbiamo affittato la casa di Michael, un simpatico (e abbronzatissimo!) signore americano. La casa era stupenda e molto particolare nell'arredamento. Molti spazi erano ricavati dalla roccia viva e ovunque era mantenuto il più autentico stile clicladico (ho scoperto che hanno degli strettissimi vincoli da rispettare per mantenere l'omogeneità e l'autenticità del paesaggio!). Inoltre, aveva un'enorme terrazza che dava sul golfo: essendo sul cucuzzolo della Chora, il panorama era davvero mozzafiato.

Gli spostamenti sono stati fatti tutti o in motorino o in macchina (affittati a Libadi, la parte bassa dell'isola, per circa 20 euro al giorno)

My aunt, after years of teasing by the idea, bought a house in this fabulous island. Several years before, I have been there with my friends, just in the island of Rhodes, to spend our vacation after we graduate, but never went through the beauty of the peninsula and the islands. So, this year, with my family and some friends, I decided to exploit the presence of my aunt to spend a week on the seaside of that paradise. We were nine, so we could not all fit in my aunt’s new house (a delicious white cube) and we rented one for my family and friends (they are a four too). Thanks to some contacts of my aunt we rented Michael's house, a friendly (and sun-tanned!) American gentleman. The house was gorgeous and had very special furniture. Many areas were taken out from the living rock and everything was kept as authentic cicladico-style (I discovered that the tight constraints must be respected to preserve the homogeneity and the authenticity of the landscape!). In addition to that, it had a huge terrace overlooking the gulf and, since it was located on the top of Chora, the view was breathtaking.

We moved always by moped or by car (we rented them in Libadi, the lower part of the island, for about 20 euros per day)

I took lots of pictures, so I let them speak for me.
