The Road of miners

For Easter weekend we all headed out to the gorgeous Cycladic Island called Serifos.

The weather wasn’t perfect, in my opinion, because those Cycladic winds were blowing harder than I would’ve liked.

We decided that a hike up the monopati trail just west of the island’s characteristic hilltop chora or main town would be a good way to spend a part of a sunny and windy day on the island. Yes, I almost blew off the mountainside.

No, not really – but the winds were strong at times! It was an easy walk overall and most of the trail is set in stone.

Locals told us that it was the same path that the miners once walked for a good hour or more to get to the caves – and back.

Today, its a leisurely walk. One that is worth the views that spread across the island’s rocky valleys out to the sea.
